It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new.
But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful.
There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.

A Rainy Day...... by Pup

Mom says she doesn't mind a rainy day, if she didn't have to go out in it.
Dad walks me on rainy days, so Mom can stay home and wait at the door with the towels for me.
I like rainy days. I like the water on the ground, I like the way the mud feels on my feet and it is really fun to shake it off in the kitchen... where Mom is waiting with the towels ... and I like the funny noises she makes when I shake the water off on her too.
Yesterday was a nice day. It was very quiet and Mom is still getting well, so we just sat in the little park. Well, Mom sat, I explored. You never know what you will find in a park .

Look what I found on the way to the Park ! Mom told me to stand still but I couldn't, so I shook her camera. I never did find out his name. Mom said things about my eyes being scratched out and we left. I have to look for that Cat next time we go to the Park.. I will watch out for my eyes.
Mom rested so I did too.
Today it is raining. A lot. Dad walked me. Mom waited with the towel.. even a car got too wet.. I think.. maybe there was no one with a towel.
There were men in trucks who made a lot of noise. They were very wet. No one had a towel.
I hope tomorrow is not wet. I want to go lie down in the park again. Maybe we will get to meet Moms friend and have ice cream. Mom says ice cream is Perfecto when you have a sore throat. My throat is fine but I will taste the ice cream if anyone wants to give me some.
Mom says she will be back tomorrow.

The Skies !

Census Day in the Park

Today we had to stay in for the Census Taker, who came fairly early , leaving us with a day to wander around. Nothing was open, everyone was home waiting to be counted. As time went by, more people showed up, but there were hardly any cars which was lovely. It was a quiet day, with that bit of sadness added with the death of the former President Nestor Kirchner.
But there were plenty of people taking advantage of a sunny spot on a park bench.

And they call it Puppy Love ~

Smile !
Honey, have you seen the Pup ?

Nestor Kirchner RIP

The former President of Argentina, Nestor Kirchner, has died in hospital from a heart attack.
His wife, the present President of Argentina , was at his side.

Coming soon

It is Tuesday.
I am still sick.
I cannot remember when I was not sick now.
OK, whine over.
Now- coming soon ...

The next few weeks are going to be busy, it would be nice if I am completely well and not coughing but at least the weather is picking up. We are having bright sunny days and warm-ish temps and I imagine the warm days and nights ahead, with me not coughing.
Pup looks like a wooly bear. He has not been groomed in so long, we can't quite remember when his last hair cut happened but it is time for him to go see Hugo .. I don't mind his hairiness, he looks adorable no matter what, but he is warm and I think he might have a bit of scent of eau de hound and that is not so good.
You know, Poodles have hair not fur, so it grows, it curls and it hangs on to smells. We want a Pup who smells like a flower again ..
Tomorrow is the National Census Day.
Every single person in the city/country has to stay home and be counted. We will be here, waiting for our Census taker to show up, count us ( I don't think Pup gets counted) and then we will go out into a totally quiet and fairly empty city. I look forward to that.
Halloween in BA is a dud. Some windows are decorated, I saw a plastic pumpkin the other day, but there are no trick or treaters, no parades, nada.
Oh well, at least we will know our apartment building won't get rolled in toilet paper or sprayed with shaving cream. Do they still do that in the US ?
Next week are the Big Events !
We go to Immigrations to get our final stamp that is overdue about 6 months ( they are behind in their paperwork down at Immigrations) and we will be as Official as it is possible to be. And then on November 6th, my husband and I celebrate our anniversary. A Big One. Like we have been married since birth. Like I don't know many people who have been married as long as we have ... like we should be really really old to be married this long ... But we aren't . Really.
The perfect celebration would include our children, NY and or maybe even Paris but we are managing nicely with a French restaurant and who knows what else.
If I am not coughing, it will be a success!
Now to find a present. What do you get the man you have been married to for 100 years?

Tango Cherie

I don't Tango. Yes, I live in Buenos Aires, I love the music, I like watching Tango but I don't really want to do it.
I guess because I am basically a very lazy person but I don't have the discipline to learn to do a dance that has it's own rules and most of all, I am not that good at doing something in front of people who are watching.
I can get all my Tango pleasure from going to a Milonga and watching someone like Cherie do it the Right way..
We have friends who are amazing Tango dancers, they travel all the time and dance in every country they visit. Imagine, going to a Milonga in Istanbul, teaching a class in Viet Nam .. I am in awe of good Tango dancers!
So meet Cherie, she is both pretty, talented and interesting, what a killer combination that is !

The Lungs of the city

It is wonderful to live in the City, any city and be close to parks and trees.
Buenos Aires has this set of parks that runs along through some of the neighborhoods, they are referred to as the Lungs of the city.
There are parks that are small and hidden and charming all over the city and then there are these great expanses of green, grass, lakes, trees of all kinds and sizes with statues and fountains and monuments . There are Sports clubs, a Planetarium , a Zoo and Japanese Gardens and Botanical Gardens.
There is the Parque Tres de Febrero, which was inspired by the Bosques de Boulogne in Paris . Trees, grass, green... lovely green.
Always there are spots for people to lie in the sun, sit on a bench, rest in chairs and have picnics on blankets.
Dogs are allowed in most of them, bike riders, skate boarders, roller skaters and babies in carriages, you will see them all.
Today was sunny for a while, warm-ish and a Saturday. A perfect recipe for what is needed to fill the parks with people and pups and babies.

And now for something completely different

Pup likes this. He gives it 2 paws up.
Tonight we will be back with something here in Buenos Aires.
Happy Saturday !

Almost Jacaranda Time !

Remember this tree ? I had no idea what kind of tree it was, I just loved the golden berries.
Today we were walking to the park with Pup and the air was heavy with the scent of perfume ! I looked up and there was the tree but now it looks like this
.

This is not a Jacaranda but a Paraiso tree .. just beginning to flower.
I thought it was a Jacaranda, but my friend here in BA, has corrected my mistake.. But soon, everywhere you look, there will also be the wonderful Jacaranda trees, covered in tiny purple flowers, scenting the city.

It is a good time to visit !
Next time I promise to get a photo of the right kind of tree ~

Buenos Aires Through a Different Lens - Part 3

Don't Worry, Be Happy

We might go to the park and just sit in the warm sunshine and let my weary bones soak in the warmth.
Or I will still be forced to stay indoors and take my medicine and get well already !
This is what happens when a person is rarely sick. When they do get ill, it hits like a ton of bricks. . and that person who is rarely sick, is not that good at following doctors orders and being patient .
That person is so very lucky to have someone who watches out for pill times and if there is anything the patient needs .. just more luck , in my opinion .. having a person like that around.

And then there is the Pup.
Remember Nanny in Peter Pan ? That is Pup these days.
He is always nearby, makes sure I stay put, relax ... you know that petting a dog or cat can lower your blood pressure... petting this particular Pup will sometimes put me to sleep .. along with him.
We are both big fans of Nap time now ..

Yesterday we received news that also makes me feel better, even while not feeling well, my heart is so much lighter, my spirits so much higher that this little illness is just a bit of nothing to be dealt with and then forgotten.
Carrying a worry for months can turn into a habit.
Even when you have finally been told there is nothing to worry about, you still catch yourself falling back into that old habit .. who knew that one had to make an effort to remember to be Happy and Don't Worry ?

So thank you for the notes and emails, I am getting better fast and in the meantime, I am not worrying and I am being happy .. I wish the same for you.

Sometimes

Sometimes I long to be where there are more Trees than People.
Sometimes I long to be alone .. well, not completely.. one person, one dog will be fine.
Sometimes I long to be where the only scent is flowers.
Sometimes I long to be where the Trees are the highest thing in sight.

Good Day, Sunshine !

The sun is shining and I am getting better.
I am not thrilled with picasa and blogger because they are taking over my photos and making things difficult but I won't whine about that now ... later, but not now.

The temps are going up, hopefully 75º - 80º F ... this will cook out any leftover germs lurking around me.
All I have to worry about next is Dengue Fever ...

Pup had to have fresh air today and so did I.
So a short walk was my treat today.. and someone else thought it was a treat too.

Until tomorrow, chau ~

Dumwit Teller

Monday is a very good day to look in on Dumwit Teller. The name caught my eye before I ever saw what she had to say and I loved it at first sight :)
I am recovering slowly from The Illness but thankfully I am quite able to sit and catch up on the blogs now... and of course, I will read Dumwit Teller and will laugh, then I will cough and then I will have to go to bed and wait for someone to buy me medicine or flowers or a drink !

Go look, tell her I said Hello ..

I see me Here

Now I know why some men like to hang out at bus stops
Who knew ? an Ornament for your roof !
I can see me here ... really .. I can..
I can see me here even better. I can see Pup there too.
Only if I am in the mood to hang out in a Bell Tower, do I see me here.
I see an Ambassador lives here. Good choice.
I see me here but where am I, Belgravia or Buenos Aires?
I see me here, Ocampo is the street name but of course !
I see me here,, hanging around in the gardens all day or in that open air salon upstairs..
I see me here every day.
Another door .. mine.
