It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new.
But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful.
There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.

Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."

The Next Chapter

It's done.
The movers are hired, the date is set.
I have to tell the cats. It won't really mean anything to them until they find themselves sitting in a big crate together .... together ?????? they may never speak to me again.

I am moving to Jacksonville Florida.
I have lived there before.
I sort of know the place.
I just don't have the energy or the ambition to shop for a town to live in.

Today was a day of fixing things and giving things away.
I am drained from having to replace a lovely antique light fixture from Argentina with a little cute milk glass light fixture from New York .
My light fixtures are all special and they all go with me.
In this house though, all the rooms have lights with fans. So they stay.
Drained from having to make such decisions alone.
Drained from the thought of that drive ..

I have bubble wrap and tape and a few boxes.
Tomorrow The Fun Begins.

It is so pretty here.
I will miss it quite a lot.
So many memories in such a short time.
Such life changing events in such a short time.

The Next Chapter awaits ..........

  1. You wont be completely alone on your drive to Florida. Your husband will be right there beside you in spirit and we, your blog readers will be along in thought. It will be alright. Have a safe journey and thank you for your beautiful blog, the pictures are always gorgeous and the daily entries are a joy to read.

  4. You are off and running! You should be so proud of yourself. Jacksonville is a nice place and no more snowed in winters for you. Hooray!

Have you thought about asking your vet for a tranquilizer for the cats? If they have something they can give them to help keep them calm it might make the trip easier for all of you.

Everyone will be thinking of you. Take care.

  6. La Vie, the cats will probably be fine, but I might as for a tranquilizer for me lol
    Thank you !

Tamago .. it is a pretty city and closer to Argentina :)
I could use less big changes and just maybe a few small ones for a while ~

  7. I know you don't want advice, so I'll share personal experience. :)Doing that drive is easier, for me, a bit farther inland than right down I-95, which is pretty hair-raising until Richmond. I've found that the ring road through NJ to PA and down I-81 is much easier on the nerves.
    Good luck, you'll do fine.

  8. Emm, that kind of advice is welcome, thank you !! I was wondering about that just this morning when someone else had mentioned I could take a better route, easier .. the cats are worried I will lose my mind as we drive and they will be stuck with me in a car while I sit there and just cry :)

Speaking of crying ... I woke up and got anxious. Thinking that there was something I had to do LOL aside from packing and moving.
My big ole Merlin cat , who is not overtly affectionate like Minette, lay across my chest and started purring. My heart just about broke from the sweetness of it.

  10. The journey option mentioned by Emm is definitely a much quieter route as you will miss Northern Virginia around D.C. which is just terrible traffic. It's longer and takes more gas but many friends drive that route now.

You'll be fine and the kitties will be purring again in no time once you reach Fla.
