It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new.
But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful.
There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.

Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."

The Pitter Patter of Tiny Kitten Feet

The thump of little feet ( paws) ... I have never had a small cat who made so much noise when it walks. She is tiny, her feet are small little cat feet ... she walks through the room and you hear
thump thump thump ... I laugh every time she does it.

Other times, I will be sitting here minding my own business, when all of a sudden, there she is !!
I jump ... I tell her, stop sneaking up on me like that !
She smirks.

Or I will be in the kitchen and suddenly she jumps up on the counter .. we have had that talk time and time again ... Stay Off the Counter !
She smirks.

It is so cold here. I picked her up and snuggled her, we were lying on the sofa watching tv, I held her little foot .. her paws are cold. My kitten has cold feet !
This might call for drastic measures.
Kitten mittens ?
Move to a warmer climate ?

I would like someone to come see my house tomorrow and tell the realtor that they have to have it , whatever the price !

I would like to look out the window and see the ground .. there has been several feet of snow on that ground for over a month .. maybe two .. who remembers ? I just know that the birds were beyond happy when the discovered that I ... the nice bird lady ... bought them a huge bag of bird seed and was very generous with the flinging of the seed into the yard.
Risking life limb and being buried alive in snow by going out to those damned feeders and filling them. Praying all the while that I would not fall and be buried alive because I had to feed Minette !

I can see the headlines now .. police find woman buried in snow, still alive .. muttering about dinnertimeforMinette .. the doctors would be puzzled, could it be a new dementia caused by snow ?

So there is a possibility that my plans for my future have changed drastically.
I might be house hunting in a new location. Not talking about it yet, thoughts have to sit for a while and settle in ... see if they sound right in the light of day ... see if I have possibly gone off the deep end or am I having a stroke of genius ... there is a fine line between Madness and Genius.
I keep reminding people of that .. you know, just in case they start to look at me funny.

Well, gotta go .. there are sounds in the kitchen and they are not the sounds of someone surprising me with a chocolate cake. .. dammit.

  1. push those boundaries! think outside the box! follow your dream!
Any or all of those clichés apply. It's op good to hear that you are rethinking and I can hardly wait to hear. Wish you were just down the road; it would be lovely to have a nice cup of tea and commiserate about the winter and look forward to new beginnings. I am a regular reader but only an occasional commenter but so appreciate what you are living with.
I am an expat and have not found the new place so congenial, missing old friends and can't seem to find my tribe here.

  2. Anony, thank you so much. I find it harder as the years go by to find new friends. People here are super nice but I haven't much in common with them and it seems people can be a little closed to "outsiders" .. plus I am a widow ..that has it's own set of "issues" :)

  3. Hmmm. Tantalizing. I can see I'll have to check in every day to see what's new with your thinking. Let's hope one good new idea leads to another.

  4. Carolyn, thank you .. let's also hope that Minette doesn't call the men in white coats to come take me away.

  5. Bievenue chez nous, Candice. MRFLIF already knows all about you so he would be on board. Charlotte is so sweet she would certainly learn to love Minette and there is lots and lots of fenced in garden for another dog -- or two.

    Now, wouldn't that be fun?

I'm angling for another dog at the moment because I think that would make Charlotte very happy -- that's the basis of my argument. . .xo

  6. Winter is dragging on and on and on. I'm so pleased to see the first sprouts of daffodils, who are trying to grab a breath of spring and show their sunny faces. Spring will come before long, and I hope it will be all the more beautiful for making us wait.

When I'm sad or lonely, I hug my pup and take her for a long walk. She's willing to go in snow and ice, intense heat, or driving rain. Perhaps you could borrow and walk some dogs belonging to friends, as a test run. When you're ready, there's a pup waiting to give you all the love you can handle. Cuidate!

  7. I am a brand new reader of your blog. I have gone back through your archives to learn more about you and your story. You tell it beautifully. I am touched by your courage as you must recreate your life without your beloved husband. It does seem that your current location is making the transition more difficult since you are at a distance from your family, friends and all that was familiar to you. I am sure that you are putting all your energies into building your future and that you will make a good decision. Now let's all hope the snow melts quickly and that a buyer for your home comes along soon so that you can begin again.
